Opening reception for the artist on Friday, April 16, 6-8pm
Optical Project presents ROCKSLIDE ROCKSOLID, an exhibition that combines interior design, hard edge abstraction, and narrative pop. The title refers simultaneously to the source of Thorne’s current imagery (rock wall patterns), and to the lyrics of cover songs. The exhibition includes a limited edition 12” record and hand-printed sound curtains, which provide an enhanced listening environment. The artist collaborated with musician/producer Julian Wass, and artist/printer Margaret White: the record features performances by Patrik-Ian Polk and Jessica Catron.
The opening weekend of ROCKSLIDE ROCKSOLID coincides with Record Store Day (April 17th), a national day of celebration for analog vinyl: http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home
Melissa Thorne is also exhibiting a related series of watercolor constructions at Devin Borden Hiram Butler Gallery.
